Advantages of 00 Model Trains

There are many model train hobbyists that collect 00 model trains only. Generally these people are found in England (as the 00 scale is most popular there), but there are also collectors around the world. The 00 gauge has been around for decades, which is one of the reasons that it has remained so popular for so long. This is also one of the reasons that people collect this scale (as there is so much history attached to it).

The advantages of collecting and operating 00 model trains are numerous. This article is going to cover some of the main reasons behind the decision to use this model scale. As you are aware, there are now a number of scales that you can choose from. This decision usually comes down to the space that you have available to you. If you have the space to set up and operate a 00 gauge train set then you should certainly test it out.

The 00 gauge is the most popular scale found in England . This means that there are far more manufactures for this scale than any other in the UK. If you live in the UK then you will be able to find many more locomotives, cars, buildings and accessories than you can find for the other model trains scales. This is certainly a big advantage of collecting the 00 scale.

What's more, you can also run HO engines on the 00 tracks. This means that if you have HO trains already, you can take advantage of them and don't need to buy new locomotives. The HO scale is named as it's half of the 00 scale. The two are interchangeable which is good news for collectors and hobbyists. This means that you can test different models and then decide which is best for your needs, and which you prefer.

The HO scale is the most popular in the USA , as there are far more manufacturers for this scale in the states. However, there are still a number of serious hobbyists that like the history of the 00 gauge and prefer to collect it.

The 00 scale has the advantage of its long history. Over the past 5 decades there have been thousands of different lines of trains produced. You can also find many of the old time trains still in operation. These can be bought quite cheaply from old collectors on in second hand sales. This means that you can find many of the famous steam trains that are no longer produced.

Because of the lineage and the history associated with the 00 gauge, there are many collectors and therefore a lot of choice open to you. You can choose from many of the greatest model train manufacturers that have existed in the past. These include the well known manufacturers such as Hornby, Tri-ang, Triang Hornby, Wrenn, Hornby Dublo, Mainline and many others that have become very collectable over the years. You can really create a collection of engines to be proud of and create a fantastic train track layout with the 00 gauge.
